The city centre is all dressed up for Christmas. Get into the Christmas spirit with our favourite places to see decorations around Auckland. From beautiful lights and baubles, to giant presents, and Santa himself, see where you can discover some Christmas magic in the city this year. 

Doves and globes

Catch a glimpse of the beautiful doves and globes in Vulcan Lane 

1. Doves and Globes in Durham St East
Sit outside at one of the great Durham St East bars and eateries and enjoy the gorgeous dove and globe installation as the colours change.

Elliott Street Angels

2. Elliott Street Angels 
Look up as you’re wandering Elliott Street and see the strings of Christmas angels between the beautiful trees which line the shared space.

3. LED Christmas stars and trees 

Check out these awesome decorations scattered across Freyberg Square, O'Connell Street and Khartoum Place. They make for great photo opportunities!

4. Giant Baubles 
You’ll find giant baubles in lower Vulcan Lane and Darby Street this year, keep your eye out for them as you're walking through!

5. Sara Hughes flags and pavement art  

Look up and down on the city centre streets to see colourful flags and pavement artwork designed by prominent Kiwi artist Sara Hughes. The inspiration behind the designs are celebratory in nature and take references from shapes and angles from the urban landscape it sits amongst. There are four different designs installed which you can check out until the end of January along Queen Street and surrounding Fanshawe Street, Britomart and Federal Street. Smith and Caughey's Windows

6. Smith & Caughey's Window Display
Each year, Smith and Caughey’s intricate window displays are unveiled in mid-November. This year, the storybook theme is The Night Before Christmas and features a beautiful tableaux of incredible handmade puppets.

LED lights in Aotea Square

7. LED drip lights in Aotea Square

Making their debut as part of 2019's Elemental winter festival, these LED lights are coming back again for Christmas in the trees of Aotea Square.

8. Orbs in lower Vulcan Lane 

Adorning the tree at the bottom of lower Vulcan Lane are the fantastic orb lighting displays, changing colour and bringing about a visual spectacle to this much-loved laneway off Queen Street.

10. Queen Street Lights 

In partnership with Auckland Council and Vector, Heart of the City has upgraded the tree up-lights on Queen Street from Customs Street up to Victoria Street including Vulcan Lane to bring more night time vibrancy to this part of the city. The LED tree lights can also link up with the Vector Lights on the Harbour Bridge and the Sky Tower lights to celebrate special occasions such as Christmas.
