Magical Christmas decorations in the city centre

The city centre is all dressed up for Christmas. Get into the Christmas spirit as you wander around the city centre taking in all the decorations and doing a spot of Christmas shopping. From beautiful lights to giant baubles, see where you can discover some Christmas magic in the city centre this year.

1. Smith & Caughey's Window Display

Each year, Smith and Caughey’s intricate window displays are unveiled in mid-November. This year, the windows are based on a New Zealand story - The Fairies' Night Before Christmas - and feature a beautiful tableaux of incredible handmade puppets.

Catch a glimpse of the beautiful doves and globes in Vulcan Lane 

2. Doves and Globes in Vulcan Lane and Durham Street East 

Enjoy the gorgeous and much loved dove and globe installations and check out the globes change colours throughout the day. These will be installed in both Durham Street East and Vulcan Lane this year.

3. Elliott Street Angels 

Look up as you’re wandering Elliott Street and see Christmas angels strung between the beautiful trees which line the shared space.

4. Giant Baubles 

You’ll find giant baubles in Te Komititanga this year, with the biggest reaching six metres in height! They're in a great position right next to Commercial Bay, Britomart and the start of Queen Street, so do your shopping and check them out while you're here. You can't miss them - and they make a great photo opportunity for kids.

5. Illuminating Light Forest

These awesome illuminating lights are on display next to the giant baubles in Te Komititanga. They make for more great Instagram content either in the daytime to show off their bright colours, or at night as they glow under the darkness of the night sky.

6. Tree lighting installation

Neon shapes in trees along Queen Street will be illuminated with different colours. Look up to see them glow!

7. Aotea Square Christmas Tree

Aotea Square is merry and bright with the arrival of the Auckland Live Christmas tree. It’s the perfect opportunity to treat yo’elf to a holiday selfie under the twinkling lights while getting all your Christmas shopping done on Queen Street.

8. Queen Street Lights 

The Queen Street lights shine proudly on the city's main street, regularly changing colour to support the many and diverse events and celebrations within the heart of the city. Developed in partnership with Auckland Council and Vector. the tree up-lights will shine red and green in the lead up to Christmas, to mark the festive season.
