More detailsThis year Auckland Live brings the much-loved Christmas Pavilion (‘The Pav’) & the Illuminating Light Forest to Aotea Square which will fill the space with an array of free and whānau-friendly activities, artists and performers to enjoy the Christmas spirit in full swing!
From Brass Moments with Maamaloa Brass Band to festive carols with the GALS – Rainbow Choir and even a Fuse bucket Drumming Workshop, there’s so much to put a smile on everyone’s face! But wait, that’s not all… Grab some popcorn and enjoy a screening of How the Grinch Stole Christmas and watch artists face off in the Art Battle Takeover!

Friday, 13 December
6pm: Tamariki are taking over the Square! Love musical theatre and want to give it a go with some exceptional rising stars? Get ready to strut your stuff and learn some new moves with the National Youth Theatre followed by a series of performance of Christmas-themed musical numbers in A Broadway Musical Christmas! Featuring a selection of songs from some of their favourite productions such as Alice – A Wonderland Musical, Wendy – The Peter Pan Musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Alongside those musical favourites, will be crowd-pleasing Christmas Classics such as O Holy Night, Santa Clause is Coming to Town and All I Want for Christmas Is You.
Saturday, 14 December
12pm: Get ready to jingle all the way with the Maamaloa Brass Band featuring their newest addition, The Chamber Choir. Come along to Aotea Square for a toe-tapping, tinsel-filled brass extravaganza. With a blend of brass, Tongan charm and angelic harmonies, let the Maamaloa Brass Band and Chamber Choir whisk you away to a holiday paradise, perfect for the sunny festive season.
3pm: Find Your Beat with Fuse Drumming this Christmas! Head to Aotea Square for a fun, free and family friendly bucket drumming workshop. Whether you're a beginner or pro, this all-ages workshop will have you drumming in no time, finishing with a group performance. This workshop is quick, easy and totally engaging, designed to have everyone learning all sorts of different drumming rhythms quicky. Fuse Drumming will have some buckets available, but please bring two buckets per person to join the fun.
6pm: Enjoy a free screening of Ron Howard’s 2000 classic How The Grinch Stole Christmas on the Auckland Live Digital Stage Outdoor Cinema. Come early to the grass terraces, bring a picnic mat, enjoy games and face painting from 6pm, plus FREE popcorn. Be quick, because this event runs on a first come, first served event until allocation is exhausted. Container in the Square will also be open and selling non-alcoholic drinks, as well as tasty eats and treats. Please note you cannot BYO alcohol to Aotea Square.
Sunday, 15 December
12pm: Auckland’s Rainbow Choir are back in Aotea Square for 2024. Join us for a sunny Sunday afternoon of festive cheer and classic Christmas carols that will make you want to dance. So, don your rainbow Christmas hat, get in the Christmas spirt and enjoy the harmonious voices of GALS - trust us, you won’t want to miss these Kiwi Summer Christmas classics.
3pm: Spreading Christmas joy across Tāmaki Makaurau this festive season, Tuakoi and Brady are ready to serenade you with their harmonious tones and vicious vibrato in full legato! Two of the stars of the hit theatre show Kōpū know a thing or two about keeping an audience captivated, all the while sharing a cheeky quip and a big naughty grin. Audiences can be prepared to hear an eclectic array of nostalgic and modern songs that will have them singing along and jingling their big ol’ bells.

Getting around the city centre is easier, and cheaper than some may think! Here are some parking and transport hacks to remember when you're coming in.
- Kids ride free on public transport on weekends and public holidays.
- $2 per hour on weekends (max of $10) at Victoria Street car park.
- $2 per hour on weekends (max of $15) at the Downtown car park.
