Although the winter cold hasn’t quite set in completely (at least in Auckland), it’s evident that chilly weather is on its way. What better time than late autumn to stock up on some wintery goods? Here are 10 of my favourites:
Stutterheim Raincoat, $465 from FABRIC
Too antsy to stay indoors? Get out in the rain with a Stutterheim raincoat. Handmade in Sweden, unisex, full weather proofed in rubberised cotton and seam-sealed, this is the Rolls Royce of raincoats. This is the kind of outerwear that almost makes you wish for a torrential storm, you know?
Signature Cast Iron Round Casserole Dish, $460 from Le Creuset
Not quite warm enough to go out? Stay in and slow cook with Le Creuset’s Signature Cast Iron Round Casserole Dish. Yes it’s on the pricey side, but it’ll last you forever. Think of the lamb shanks!
Aesop Fabulous Face Oil, $70 from WORLD Britomart
Speaking of skincare products, a friend recently introduced me to the Aesop Fabulous Face Oil and I have not turned back since. I sometimes have dry patches on my skin and this helps so much, it’s an oil but it’s not oily as such, it absorbs really well and smells great.
Bacon and Egg Breakfast Doonas, $10 from Depot
No better way to keep warm than eating comfort food. It’s the best part of Winter! Depot’s bacon and egg breakfast doonas are $10 a pop and will not disappoint. It’s a simple concoction - a buttery, toasty bun filled with fried egg, bacon and sauce - but it cannot be beat. Stay and order the fresh warm beignets with passionfruit curd (also $10) as a sort of breakfast dessert. Note: only available 7am - 10.45am.
Tea, from $18.70 from T2
There’s little a delicious cup of hot tea can’t help fix. T2 have a plethora of different tea options, including Turkish Apple Tea, ‘Relax’ Tea with chamomile and lemon, and one of my favourites, “French Earl Grey’.
Peanut Slab Mousse, $10 from Culprit.
I have not actually had this yet but Culprit have a Peanut Slab Mousse on the menu from now until the end of July and it looks incredible. So much so, I’m willing to vouch for it.
Clinique Sparkle Skin, $62 from Smith & Caugheys
Clinique Sparkle Skin is not technically a Winter product (I use it year ‘round), but it’s a fantastic way to keep your dry, wind-worn skin feeling soft and polished. It’s my favourite body exfoliator hands down, it makes your skin tingle and feel literally like a babies bottom.
RM Williams Adelaide Boots, $595 from RM Williams
With the jacket covered, you’ve only got your feet to worry about. Splash out on some RM Williams Adelaide boots - very classic, very stylish. very fall friendly.
Bikram Yoga, from $24 per casual class at Bikram Yoga Britomart
Venture out to one of the warmest places in Auckland - Bikram Yoga Britomart. Going through 26 Hatha Yoga postures in a 40 degree warm room will not only get the blood flowing and tone your body, it’ll ensure you’ll also be out of the cold! Casual classes are $24, or grab the Intro Pack - 30 days of unlimited yoga classes for $49.
Balinese Massage, $125 for 60 minutes at East Day Spa
Follow up your workout with a bit of indoor luxury - in the form of a ‘Balinese’ massage at East Day Spa. It’s a traditional Balinese-style massage that incorporates acupressure and gentle stretches, giving your muscles some well deserved relaxation.
