Hui Auaha o Aotearoa - Open Day at the Fashion Museum is a contribution to the Global Fashioning Assembly 2024 (GFA24), a gathering of global fashion makers that reaches across disciplines and geographical boundaries to recognise how diverse fashion is.
Join some of their online audience as they gather for a day of hands-on activities that take you behind their online presence and mahi. The day offers first hand experience of the museum’s exhibition making, opportunities to engage with their kaupapa and participatory workshops that cover archival researching, collection preparation, documenting, building relationships with our clothing and above all, storytelling :
- Popup photography session - bring your garments to be photographed for the NZFM collection, includes a live talk to photographer Denise Baynham
- Interviews with garment contributor about their garment - history, why they have kept it, where it was worn, ‘value’ et al, original use and original photographs
- Workshop led by Dianne Ludwig - Welcome Back treasures from your wardrobe.
- Repair and Care Workshop
- A Little Fashion Walk - a short history and visit to Smith + Caughey’s Queen Street
- Clothes are my Friends - Interactive session led by Dr Jennifer Whitty and Karishma Singh Kelsey
- Invitation for people to fashion themselves for a runway fashion show and/or to be photographed street style in collaboration with Viva
- Research workshop - How to tap into the library heritage collection of archives and photographs to learn how to write interesting, informative, and factually accurate stories. Led by Auckland library staff
- Introduction to the NZ Fashion Museum online - how to navigate the website

The New Zealand Fashion Museum will occupy a physical space at the Auckland Central Library on Saturday 12 October 2024 from 10am-4pm.
