Urunga Plaza and What's Next in Wynyard Quarter

Already home to the much loved Silo Park and hot dining spots Auckland Fish Market and North Wharf, there are so many more exciting things to come in Wynyard Quarter in 2020 and throughout the decade.

Parks and public spaces
There’ll be a lot more green and hangout-worthy public spaces in Wynyard Quarter very soon; you’ll have new laneways to wander along with a coffee from Rushworth and new parks where you can enjoy uber fresh seafood from Sanford and Sons or a poke bowl from Ika Bowl.

The first of the new spaces to be complete is Urunga Plaza, which runs between the new Park Hyatt Auckland hotel and the harbour’s edge. You can expect to see art, green spaces, pohutukawas and street furniture that pays tribute to the maritime history of the area.

Before the end of 2020, Silo Park will be expanded to create more space for people ahead of America's Cup, an extended ‘linear park’ will connect Victoria Street to the waterfront along Daldy Street, with a neighbourhood park (see picture above) joining with the linear park at the corner of Pakenham Street.

After America's Cup racing has finished, Panuku, the council controlled organisation that looks after the development of the area, will be getting to work on the next stage of Wynyard Quarter's evolution.

New spaces for businesses and homes

Wynyard Quarter is going through one of the largest urban regenerations in the country – with huge amounts of planning going into creating a vibrant mix of living, working and playing spaces in this previously industrial area.

When development is finished, there'll be up to 3,000 people living in up to 500 modern apartments and townhouses in Wynyard Quarter. Already completed are 132 Halsey Street and Wynyard Central - which houses crowd favourites Williams Eatery and La Petite Fourchette. Currently under construction is 30 Madden, which is sure to bring some exciting new eating, drinking and shopping places along with it - as well as more residents to make the most of what's on offer.

The professional buzz in the area is growing too - with up to 25,000 people eventually working in the neighbourhood in businesses from one-person start ups working from GridAKL to companies like ASB, Fonterra and Air New Zealand, which all have their headquarters in the area.
