The country's best artists are exploring social issues and challenges of the urban environment.

From 7 to 15 October immerse yourself in socially-conscious art events to gain a new perspective on life experiences of fellow kiwis and get inspired to make our world a better place.

6 October - 6 November & Late Night Art 10 October at the Auckland Central City Library

How do people end up sleeping rough? Working with people who have lived experience of homelessness, you are invited to enter a maze specially designed to give you an insight into the experience of rough sleeping in central Auckland. Make your own choices. See where you end up. 

For the Love of Bees Artist Residency
7 - 15 October & Late Night Art 10 October at the Griffiths Gardens

This social sculpture presents the first iteration of an artist residency program lead by vision holder Sarah Smuts-Kennedy. Over the course of Artweek Sarah will be working with local artists and collaborators to produce work that responds to the various directives and initiatives raised throughout the life of the project. 

Pohutukawa Chi and Pō | Beautiful Darkness
7 - 15 October and Late Night Art 10 October at St Matthew-in-the-City

Artist Mika Haka presents a tree art installation honouring the New Zealanders who lost their lives to suicide within the last 12 months as well as Pō | Beautiful Darkness, a unique performance heralding a new generation of influencers from Media Design School and Mika Haka Foundation.

Street Wisdom
Late Night Art 10 October at the Auckland Central City Library

Buskers, poets and streeties from Auckland City Centre streets will be performing live to share important perspectives to share about the current state of the city and what could be done to improve its sense of community.

On the Street
13 - 15 October at Gow Langsford Gallery

This exhibition of photographs by John Crawford focuses on people from the streets of Auckland.  Visitors are invited to donate $900.00 and receive a photograph of their choice from the exhibition. All proceeds will go directly to the City Mission.
