Aotea Centre

An exciting, phased development is underway to refurbish the Centre with a fresh, sophisticated edge.

The Aotea Centre is purpose-built performing arts centre, home to New Zealand’s largest tiered auditorium, a unique black box theatre and function rooms. The Maori name “Aotea” has several meanings in English, the most common one being “White Cloud” or “beyond the mist, a new beginning”.

Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre and Herald Theatre are host to international and local performers of the highest calibre, as well as emerging talents and schools contests.

The space has art work by prominent New Zealand names. There are a raft of performances in the space including by the New Zealand Ballet, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and New Zealand Opera. Auckland Writers Festival takes place in the building.

Transportation links are aplenty in the streets surrounding the venue, plus many incredible bars and eateries.
