Mix up your next lunch hour by doing a spot of shopping at some of our fantastic city centre stores. Whether it be quirky bits and pieces to brighten your day, a new read, or a piece of clothing, you'll find it all in the heart of the city. Below are our top picks for a quick lunchtime shopping jaunt.
High St District
Sitting down for lunch in the Freyberg and Chancery Square area? You're in a great spot for a bit of shopping after you've refueled. Take a stroll along High Street and check out the fun and colourful stores, some of our favourites for lunchtime browsing include Shut The Front Door, Unity Books and Pauanesia.
If you're looking for a gift or something to spruce up your home, Shut the Front Door is the perfect choice. Candles & diffusers, kids toys and accessories, furniture, drink bottles, umbrellas... they have it all and it's so much fun to shop in this store.
Grab a new read for your lunch break tomorrow at Unity Books. Undeniably one of the best bookstores in the city centre, and winning the 2020 International Book Store of the year award, there's no doubt there will be a great book in here for you.
For a little more home decor, and a touch of Kiwiana, amble through Pauanesia and check out their collection. Pauanesia is always a joy to visit. It is brimming with locally made, distinctive textiles, homeware, jewellery and special mementos that capture our country's spirit.
Victoria Park & City Works Depot
With plenty of great cafes and eateries in the area, it's no surprise that you might find yourself around Victoria Park and City Works Depot during your lunch hour. There's also a wide variety of shops to browse here too! Knuefermann on Fanshawe Street is there to fill your wardrobe with a little bit of style, the Angie Dennis Art Studio in Victoria Park is perfect if you're an art lover or are looking for a colourful print to hang on your walls, and Holiday Records has all the best tunes and albums to flick through.
Heading over to City Works Depot, Monstera is definitely worth a visit - they stock the widest range of indoor plants in the country! Or, treat yourself to a new piece of jewellery from Zoe & Morgan. We love their range of earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets and fine jewellery - both beautiful and edgy.
Albert St Area
Jade and greenstone pendants are absolutely beautiful (in both sight and meaning) and the Jade Centre stocks some amazing pieces. Each piece is handmade by Jade Centre's very own experienced craftsmen who specialise in traditional New Zealand designs such as the Koru, Tiki, Manaia, Twist, Toki, Fish Hook and Whale Tail.
Head back to the office with a lovely bouquet from Roma Blooms, or just stop in to smell the roses. Nothing beats a bunch of flowers to brighten your day!
Shop around Britomart in your lunch hour for some new items to add to your wardrobe. Ted Baker's garments exhibit personality and flair, sass & bide is your go to for effortlessly casual yet glamorous clothing and accessories, and Allbirds have the most comfortable (and sustainable!) shoes on the market.
Queen Street is an obvious shopping hub. Along this stretch of road there's a store for everything! We love browsing through The Kitchen Shop in Queen's Arcade, tasting delicious teas at T2, trawling through the racks at H&M and exploring all the levels of Smith & Caughey's.
We can't forget to mention the new kid on the block either - Right at the bottom of Queen Street, Commercial Bay is made for a lunch time shopping spree. With plenty of stores all within one area, you'll be able to visit a bunch in your lunch hour. Some of our top picks include Creative & Brave, Scotch & Soda, Città, Aotea and Edmund Hillary.
