Imaginative invention threads its way through recent novels from two of Australasia’s most celebrated writers. In the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards shortlisted Nothing to See by Pip Adam, two women struggling with sobriety mysteriously become one. The 2021 winner of Australia’s richest literary prize, the Victorian Prize for Literature, Laura Jean McKay brings us The Animals in that Country in which victims of a flu develop the ability to understand animals.
