Whale Tales 2022 is an incredible immersive public art trail around Tāmaki Makaurau! Each tail sculpture is inspired by a healthy ocean and designed by some of Aotearoa's most talented artists and tamariki. Trail goers have been enjoying fabulous family fun around the city exploring the art. Now, see the Tails one last time at Silo Park Extension before they migrate to their forever homes!

To join, register for an 1.5 hour session over the three days, from Friday April 29 - Sunday May 1, via Eventfinda.

  • Choose from following arrival times: 8.30am / 10am / 11.30am / 1.00m / 2.30pm / 4.00pm

Enjoy the social atmosphere while you see Big Broos and Pēpi Pods in one location. Then dine along Wynyard Quarter, or linger to delight in the Vector Lights Whale Tales show dancing across the Harbour Bridge at 6.30pm.

Interested in bidding to own a Tail at the Auction? Talk to the team to arrange a time to meet onsite at this event to view them all.

WWF-New Zealand has partnered with Wild in Art, Auckland Unlimited, and Harcourts NZ to bring the trail to the City of Sails and raise awareness of the vital work WWF-New Zealand does to look after our ocean, including our beautiful Hauraki Gulf and its endangered resident, the Bryde's whale. There are only 135 Bryde's whales left in the Hauraki Gulf, and it is a "Nationally Critical" species. Together, we can help restore the Gulf and protect the future of this taonga species.

Please note;

  • Please register to secure your space!
  • Walk up slots will be available space pending for each session
