New Zealand Music Month kicks off with the return of Opera in the Strand on 1 May. After a successful debut in 2024, this free event will feature top New Zealand opera singers performing in the historic Strand Arcade, with no tickets or bookings needed. Enjoy the glorious colour, costumery and melody in this iconic setting.

Curated by the New Zealand Opera School, the artists sing from the tiled arcade floor and high on the bridges above midtown’s historic Strand Arcade, built 125 years ago. Come on down to take in the musical stylings of sopranos, Emma Jones, Olivia Forbes and Sarah Mileham, take in tenor Ridge Ponini and be amazed by baritones Edward Laurenson and Alfred Fonoti-Fuimaono, all accompanied by pianist, David Kelly.
