Make Fashion Week your own and bespoke your bike and yourself. Frocks on Bikes are hosting a pit stop with a difference at Aotea Square. Add some sparkle to your bike or make a 'skirt guard' to protect your precious frock with this hands-on making session with maker and artist Margaret Lewis.

About Margaret Lewis

Margaret Lewis is a contemporary textile artist using traditional crafting techniques (knitting, crochet, embroidery, macrame) and re- contextualising them by her use of unexpected materials. Self-taught, her practice could be described as 'making a silk-purse out of a sow's ear', in that her works use easily found (and often discarded) items as her canvas.

About Frocks on Bikes

Frocks On Bikes is a group passionate about making it fun, stylish and easy for women to get on bikes. We believe bikes are a one-way ticket to enjoying more convenience, more fun, more socialising, more liberty, more money, more sustainability, and generally feeling and looking great.  Women can enjoy all these benefits just by hopping on a bike during our normal daily lives - we don't need special clothing, or equipment, or to be sporty, or fit, or even to like bikes for their own sake.

Frocks On Bikes started with a small handful of "Frockers" in Wellington in 2008, and have since grown to having active Frocks On Bikes "flocks" in seven cities around New Zealand, regular national media coverage (and of course much more local media coverage), and drawing crowds of hundreds of people to our major events. We maintain a strong web presence and put on fun events that women want to join in on - everything from fashion shows through romantic rides to shopping excursions to movie-and-cafe outings.  We sometimes run road-confidence, bike skills and bike maintenance workshops too.  We know that it's really crucial for women to feel comfortable and capable riding on the roads.
