Resonate

Opening on May 2, 2025, and running through May 4, 2025, DARKLIGHT: A Descent Into Colour is an immersive experience that will take visitors on a journey through the interplay of light, darkness, and the emotional transformations that occur when these elements collide.

The first of its kind in New Zealand, DARKLIGHT invites attendees to experience the art of light in a completely new way. Moving beyond the traditional understanding of light as a mere presence, this exhibition introduces darkness as an active participant in the artwork, shaping the atmosphere and evoking emotions that engage both mind and body. Visitors will step into a series of interactive walk-through structures and be fully enveloped by audio-visual installations, each creating contrasting spaces of light and dark that demand contemplation and introspection.

The minds behind DARKLIGHT are Angus Muir and Dan Move. Recognised for their ability to bring immersive, creative experiences to life, Angus and Dan are bringing together installations by renowned artists including Lakshman Anandanayagam from Creature Post and Simon Holden from LUMA Queenstown to complete the experience.

The DARKLIGHT experience is divided into three distinct sections.

The Threshold, located on Level 1, is a serene, white-light space promoting purity and introspection, with soft sounds and tonal shifts symbolising infinite potential.

A Rift In The Light, the transition zone near the stairs, introduces colour and disrupted light, signaling a break from purity and the beginning of new possibilities, accompanied by a deeper, irregular soundscape.

Finally, The Unknown on the ground floor is an expansive space filled with shifting, intense colours, representing the blossoming of potential, where moments of calm and chaos intertwine, culminating in a moment of decompression that reflects the transformative power of colour and human emotions.

With hourly sessions running from 10am-10pm in Brad’s Warehouse, the venue, located in Auckland’s vibrant CBD, offers a perfect setting for this extraordinary exhibition. With its historic charm and spacious interiors, it provides an ideal backdrop for an exploration of light and darkness.

About the venue: BRAD's is a two-level historic stone building, which was constructed in 1861 making it one of Auckland’s most significant heritage buildings. As a result, this edition of DarkLight has limited accessibility. The ground floor is fully accessible; however the upper floor is not.
