The APO present a feast of lively and evocative 20th century music from some of the period's best composers.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, these concerts do look a little different but it's the same great orchestra you know and love.

This concert was previously called Symphonic Dances and still features Barber's Violin Concerto, now performed by APO Associate Concertmaster Lui Yi Retallick.

The exciting new programme also features Kodály’s Dances of Galánta, Copland's El Salon Mexico and Stravinsky's powerful Symphony in Three Movements.

Existing tickets for this date are still valid. If you wish to attend and already have a ticket, there is no need to get in touch and we look forward to seeing you.

A feast of lively and evocative 20th century music from some of the period's best composers.

Kodály’s Dances of Galanta echoes the colourful gypsy folk culture and characteristic melodies he encountered in the small town where he spent much of his childhood. Then APO Associate Concertmaster Liu Yi Retallick takes centre stage to perform one of the loveliest works for the violin, the lyrical, autumnal concerto by Samuel Barber.

Copland’s El Salon Mexico will transport you to a colourful 1930’s dance hall in Mexico City with musical rhythms that reflect the spirit of the people there. And to finish a rare treasure from Stravinsky, dubbed his ‘war symphony’. A typically powerful work inspired by the events of WWII.
