6-19 July, 2020 - Varying show times

Last year, as the temperature plummeted and the nights grew colder, you had our ‘Voyage Du Noir’ Film Festival to guide you through the darker months. A whole year has passed and now it's time to bring our audiences some spookier, even more thrilling offerings…

From July 6th - 19th, we have teamed up with Universal to bring the Classic Universal Monster series to the big screen! Under the stewardship of Carl Laemelle Jr - the more ambitious son of Universal president Carl Laemelle - Universal produced a host of memorable monster flicks covering depictions of monsters that continue to live on in pop culture today, starting with 1931’s DRACULA.

Our series contains not only Bela Lugosi’s archetypal Count Dracula, but also Boris Karloff setting the mould as the titular monster in THE MUMMY (1932) and his beloved Frankenstein’s monster performances in James Whale’s masterpiece FRANKENSTEIN (1931) and the just as stunning sequel THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935). Academy are also excited to confirm that yes, you will be able to see both as a double feature as the Centrepiece of this festival! We will also show how Claude Rains ended up rising to stardom with his iconic turn as THE INVISIBLE MAN (1933) along with further vital work in THE WOLF MAN  (1941) and THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1943). You can also see what influenced directors like Guillermo Del Toro with the amazing make-up and special effects of CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON (1954), which is the latest film in the Universal Monster cycle.

We can’t wait for you to come in from the cold and venture down to our little cinema, curling up with some toasty hot popcorn to enjoy these classics of horror on the big screen.
