It’s the end of the working week and it’s time to play, hip hooray! We’ve rounded up a Friday evening of epic good times all in the Albert Street neighbourhood - perfect for if you’ve knocked off work onsite on the City Rail Link or up one of the office towers nearby, or if you’re on the lookout for a new and interesting part of the city centre to explore.

Cheers to the weekend!

Food on a plate

Happy hour at Spitting Feathers
Ring in the weekend with happy hour from 4 - 7pm at your friendly local English freehouse, Spitting Feathers, just down from Albert Street on Wyndham. With happy hour house beer, wine and spirits all at or below the $7 mark, this is a watering hole your bank account will get on board with.

Food alley

Fill your belly at Food Alley
Mee goreng, curry laksa, sushi, Hainanese chicken rice, dan dan noodles, som tum salad - whatever your Asian food favourite is, it’s pretty sure to be on the menu - and delicious - at Auckland’s iconic Asian food hall. Open till 9pm, this is a surefire way to fuel you for the rest of the evening.

Ellice Road 3

Shoot some pool at Ellice Road
A fifties-style fitout, an extensive menu of American-inspired street food all under $15 and lots of fun playthings from pool tables to pinball machines and darts make Ellice Road a no brainer of a Friday night fun destination.

The Shakespeare

Sample some craft brews at The Shakespeare
This pink heritage beauty on the corner of Albert and Wyndham serves up a tempting range of fresh, unfiltered, brewed-on-site craft drops. Quench your thirst with a glorious brew of malt, hops and yeast from the palest ale to the blackest stout.

Interior of a bar

Live music at The Fiddler
There’s always good craic and a cool stout to be found at The Fiddler, and every Friday from 11pm - 2am there’s live music to enjoy. The Fiddler is also a dependable spot to catch any important sporting fixtures if you’re looking for somewhere to watch the game on a Friday night.

Late night snack at Ichiban
Open till 1am and dishing up some of the best ramen and Japanese eats in the city centre, Ichiban is a hot favourite for a late night snack. If you’re just a wee bit peckish, go for some gyoza and some edamame. If you’ve got a serious hunger to satisfy, go all in on a delicious bowl of ramen with your favourite broth and toppings.
