Upgrading Federal Street

Connecting the city centre laneway circuit

The Federal Street many Aucklanders will be familiar with is the part near SkyCity, with outdoor dining from Depot, The Fed and Bellota spilling out into the street and fairy lights and the Sky Tower overhead.

The street actually runs all the way from Mayoral Drive down to Fanshawe Street, and there are plans to upgrade the whole length to make it a nicer place to walk and spend time.

The next section in line for some love is between Mayoral Drive and Wellesley Street – home to St Matthew-in-the-City and French83.

Just up the hill from the City Rail Link’s Aotea Station, Federal Street will be another handy walking connection within the city centre. Further down the track, Federal Street will be upgraded from Victoria Street to Fanshawe Street, but for now that part of the street has been temporarily improved for getting around with painted cycle lanes and planter boxes.
