This winter, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki proudly presents A Century of Modern Art - a must-see exhibition that brings the bold spirit of modernism to life! On exclusive loan from the Toledo Museum of Art in Ohio, this remarkable exhibition offers a sweeping exploration of the legendary artists who redefined the course of modern art.
Prepare to be dazzled by fan-favourites of Toledo Museum of Art’s world-renowned collection - which includes seven iconic works by fifty-three artists, such as Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cezanne, Pablo Picasso, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Edgar Degas. You’ll also get the chance to view premier pieces by pioneering artists of the American and European avant-garde.
A Century of Modern Art traces the birth of modern painting, beginning with the Impressionists in the 1860s, and follows its evolution through key movements such as Post-Impressionism, Symbolism, Cubism, Surrealism, Constructivism, German Expressionism, Bauhaus, De Stijl, Precisionism, and Colour Field Painting and Abstract Expressionism.
And here’s another reason to be excited: The exhibition will be presented alongside Auckland Art Gallery’s exhibition, The Robertson Gift: Paths through Modernity — one of the Gallery’s most visited showcases. The Gallery’s staying up late and you’re invited! Celebrate modern art after hours with Open Late: An Abstract Experiment, a vibrant night of free entertainment, interactive experiences, and creative activations.
