There’s something satisfying about settling in to a chic and stylish hotel bar to meet with friends, colleagues, or a special someone. If you know where to look, there are some pretty amazing spots around town that ooze sophistication and intimacy. And that’s what we’re here for; we’ve compiled a list of some truly top-notch hotel bars to grab a tipple.

Captain's bar

Captain's Bar | 99 Halsey Street

Captain’s Bar is a cosy den, where guests can settle into plush chairs and relax beside the roaring fire, or when the sun is shining, on the outdoor terrace with stunning views over the Viaduct Harbour. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail experience or if you're a rum fan, there are approximately 60 different varieties to choose from, helpfully categorised as fruity, floral, oaky or spiced. There's also a great tapas style menu and sharing platters making it a great place to wind down after a long day enjoying the Viaduct.

Gusto

Gusto at the Grand | 90 Federal St

Step into a classic Italian space, complete with white arabescato marble, gold onyx, timber floors, and Gusto’s iconic chandeliers. With Italian martinis and Negroni cocktails on the cards, as well as a great wine list encompassing a range of Italian and Kiwi drops, you’re bound to find something to tickle your fancy.

Housebar at Hotel DeBrett | 2 High St

After a meticulous restoration, the Housebar at the Hotel DeBrett has been transformed to its former glory. A hidden gem up the stairs inside the entance of the hotel and keeping reference to the bar’s original art deco style, Housebar is the perfect place to relax and escape from your busy life. Our favourite thing to do there is enjoy a glass of red wine by candlelight under the glass roofed soaring atrium.

Bar seating area with the waterfront outside

Bellini Bar at the Hilton | 147 Quay St

With breathtaking harbour views, Bellini ticks all of the boxes for a seaside hotel bar. With award-winning and talented ‘mixologists’ behind the bar, ready with both fascinating history and forward-thinking flavour combinations, you can’t go wrong. You can even jump behind the bar yourself at a cocktail masterclass to get all of their tips and tricks.

Cooke's Restaurant and Bar at the Hotel Grand Windsor | 60 Queen Street

With a blend of classical and art deco interior design, Cooke’s Restaurant & Bar pays homage to the famous eatery of the same name which first occupied the building back in 1928. Sit back for an evening of 1920's glamour and exciting cocktails, our current favourite is the colour changing Thing with a Zing - order it for yourself and you'll se why!
