Returning the call of craft beer aficionados near and far, Wynyard Quarter now boasts Auckland’s latest specialty craft beer bar.

Unlike most bars which are ‘Tied Houses’, 16 Tun is passionate about providing the best beer New Zealand has and offers customers carefully crafted beers of independent brewers from all over the country.

16 Tun – Free House, Full Flavour

Since opening in 2013, 16 Tun has been Wynyard Quarter’s go-to spot for great beer, hearty food, and good company. They are a Free House—which means they are not tied to any one brewery, and never have been. Instead, they pour the best craft beers from independent brewers all over New Zealand.

With over 150 rotating options across taps and bottles, there’s always something fresh to discover, whether you're a seasoned beer nerd or just keen to try something local and well made.

Their kitchen serves up bold, satisfying dishes made to match your pint. Think smashburgers, southern fried chicken, fish & chips, pulled pork fries, and plenty of shareable snacks—like wings (buffalo, gochujang or naked), squid, and jalapeño poppers. There are great vegetarian options too, including Impossible burgers and crispy tofu bites.

Inside, you’ll find warm wood finishes, soft lighting, and a welcoming atmosphere. Outside, we’ve got sunny seats with views of the harbour—perfect for a post-work beer or lazy afternoon catch-up.
