About Hyokeun Choi:
Chef Hyokeun Choi is no stranger to refined Auckland kitchens. Upon his arrival in NZ, he landed his first job at Parnell institution, Cibo, then headed onto chef roles in well-established Auckland city restaurants such as The Grove, Baduzzi, Sofitel Auckland and Park Hyatt. Chef Hyokeun now leads the team at Boda Restaurant and oversees all food and beverage operations at the Mövenpick Hotel Auckland as Executive Chef, spearheading a contemporary Korean inspired menu that is a reflection of his culinary passion and influence.
Seoul-born Executive Chef Hyokeun Choi draws on his culinary history starting with his childhood memories in the kitchen with his family. Chef Hyokeun attributes his skill of learning to source and cook with the best and freshest local ingredients of the season to his halmoeni (Korean for grandmother). It was also at this point where he discovered a passion for cooking and sought out a path in the culinary world, from humble beginnings as a kitchen hand, honing his techniques to eventually becoming a notable chef.
