2019 Booker Prize joint winner Bernardine Evaristo’s triumphant eighth novel is the polyphonic work Girl Woman Other, following the lives of 12 UK characters over several decades, and for which she cites reality as a motivating force. The first black woman to win the Booker, her work frequently explores the African diaspora and ranges across poetry, prose, radio and theatre scripts, and non-fiction. She is a professor of creative writing and has been the poet-in-residence at the Museum of London. In conversation with Sonya Wilson, Evaristo expounds on her work, her activism, and the revolution sweeping through British publishing, of which she is a marker.
