When Blithe Spirit debuted in 1941 in war-torn London, its hysterical hijinks proved just the tonic for a shell-shocked population. A record-setting run followed and, over the decades, grand dames from Angela Lansbury to Judi Dench have filled Madame Arcati’s kaftan on stage and screen.
