Auckland Pride is shaping up to be a historic event for the city's rainbow communities as the festival looks to commemorate 50 years of Pride in Tāmaki Makaurau, 50 years on from the start of the Gay Liberation Movement in 1972.

The month-long celebration from 1-27 February will take place across Tāmaki Makaurau, showcasing Auckland's diverse communities.

The 2022 programme will see the return of festival favourites including the Pride Gala on Thursday 3 Feb, Ending HIV Big Gay Out on Sunday 13 February, and the Pride March and Pride Party on Saturday 26 February.

There will also be hundreds of events throughout the city, including two new annual takatāpui-focused events, He Whakawhārikihia on Tuesday 1 February and Te Tīmatanga from 1-27 February.
