St Matthew-in-the-City is a spirited place where people stand, connect, and seek common ground.
The beautiful neo-Gothic stone church has European and medieval features, and is the only church of its kind in New Zealand with vaulted stone ceilings. St Matthew’s has occupied the same central city site since 1848, and the current stone church was built in 1905.
St Matthew-in-the-City have regular weekly services at 8am and 10am on Sundays, as well as the Auckland Rainbow Community Church service at 7.30pm on Sunday evenings.
Widely considered to be an Anglican church at the forefront of liberal and progressive theology, St Matthew-in-the-City are also well-known around Auckland for their thought provoking and often humorous billboards.
