Ko Ūhia Mai haka | From May 13

A powerful Black Ferns haka has been launched as a key new attraction at the All Blacks Experience! New Zealand Rugby Aspiring Director Nicola O’Rourke officially launched the Ko Ūhia Mai haka as a new feature of the Experience, noting the importance of its addition for women in sport.

The Black Ferns haka called Ko Ūhia Mai ‘Let it be known’ was written by respected Māori rugby leader, Whetū Tipiwai. Mr Tipiwai also wrote the Māori All Blacks haka, Timatanga. Ko Ūhia Mai speaks of wahine Māori uniting for strength, regardless of where they come from, to overcome the challenges in front of them.

The haka, led by Te Kura Ngata-Aerengamate and Renee Wicklife, was filmed in one shot and one take at Auckland’s Eden Park on 17 August 2019 against the Wallaroos Australian women’s national team.

“The Black Ferns haka is a long awaited and vital addition to the Experience. It’s important that young women see themselves reflected in what we offer at the All Blacks Experience. We’re not only showcasing the journey to become an All Black, but to become a Black Fern too,” O’Rourke says.

The Black Ferns haka will be showcased on the midday and 2pm tours from Thursday 13th to Monday 17th May. It will also feature regularly as part of the Experience’s public programme and will be available on request.

The All Blacks Experience is a state-of-the-art guided encounter that showcases the All Blacks, Black Ferns, and our other national rugby teams in black through exceptional innovation and technology. This full sensory and interactive experience allows New Zealanders and international manuhiri (visitors) to celebrate New Zealand's rugby heritage, achievements, and culture. Understand and appreciate why the haka plays an integral role in physically and mentally preparing All Black teams for battle. You can then test your own rugby skills against All Blacks and Black Ferns in our hands-on, interactive zone.

The 45-minute experience immerses manuhiri in the history, culture and people who have made the All Blacks such an important part of New Zealand’s story.

The experience includes a hands-on interactive zone giving manuhiri the chance to try their kicking, catching, line out and accuracy skills against the All Blacks.

  • Learn how the game became so closely tied to our national identity.
  • Follow the journey a player makes from club rugby to the legendary All Blacks.
  • Experience first-hand the excitement and emotion of game day.
