Improving Victoria Street

Better for spending time and getting around

Victoria Street is on track to become a better place to spend time and easier to get around with a mix of short and long term projects that are in the works.

The Victoria Street cycleway between Beaumont and Nelson Streets is almost finished, making it easier for people to ride safely into the city centre on designated cycleways between Nelson Street and Franklin Road.

The next big project for Victoria Street is the construction of the City Rail Link Aotea Station, due to open in 2024. The street near the station is also in line to become a nicer place to be with more room to walk and sit, with upgrades due on the section from Elliott to Federal Street planned to open in 2025.

In the longer term, there are plans for a ‘linear park’ to run the whole way from Albert Park to Victoria Park.
