Smith & Caughey's is now permanently closed.
Smith and Caughey revealed their final window displays during their last few days of trading. A tribute to the rich history of the family business, the windows feature vintage advertisements, pictures of staff and campaigns over the years and historic photos of the iconic building. Though trading ceased Sunday 15th June, you can take in 145 years of Queen Street history, on display until July.
It operated as one of New Zealand’s best-loved department stores with foundations rooted deep in the history of Auckland. Smith & Caughey’s operated with standards of premium service and quality merchandise since 1880, remaining family-owned and operated.
