Auckland's first ever vegan Yum Cha is back and here to stay!

In keeping with the East ethos to deliver plant-powered dishes that don’t sacrifice on flavour, their Yum Cha menu curation is a take on the traditional offering but with an entirely vegan twist. Expect renditions of classic Dim Sum dishes such as Char Siu Bao with sticky jackfruit, or Sheng Jian Bao where pork is substituted for meaty wood ear mushrooms. You’ll also find some existing favourites, like their beloved Spring Onion Pancake and Xiao Long Bao soup dumplings. And as is tradition, end your meal in appropriate fashion with a selection of sweet treats like Deep Fried Sesame Balls or Mango Tapioca Pudding. Many of the dishes are made in-house with their resident experience and expertise, and some of the dumpling selections have been produced by master dumpling makers exclusively for East.

Yum Cha at East runs every Sunday from 12pm – 3pm.

It is located on the ground floor of the Sudima Auckland City Hotel, at 63-67 Nelson Street, Auckland CBD. Bookings are strongly encouraged. For more information and bookings see, here.

Located on the ground floor of the Sudima Hotel in Nelson Street, seventy-five percent of the dishes on offer at East are vegan and 70 percent are gluten free.

East’s menu is a concise edit of inventive dishes all designed to share: Peking jackfruit pancakes, tapioca chips and plum sauce; caramelised black pepper tofu, shallots, garlic and gai laan; East gado gado, long bean, chioggia beetroot, spinach, tempeh and soft egg; and Typhoon shelter fried rice with corn, asparagus and burnt garlic.

The modern-Asian eatery is also one of few restaurants in New Zealand to have an extensive, 100 percent organic and vegan wine list featuring New Zealand and Italian vintages.

The cocktail menu offers a bespoke range of pan-Asian drinks, including:

  • Omo Sake — Jasmine-infused tengumai junmai sake, campari, sweet vermouth, tea pearl;
  • Shochu Sesame Sour — Hombo shuzo shochu, lemon juice, honey syrup, sesame, grapefruit and hops bitters;
  • A non-alcoholic Nang Pimm — Seedlip spice, lemonade, lemon juice, angostura bitters, strawberries, Thai basil, blackberry and balsamic bitters.
