Te Waihorotiu Station will be the third and final station opened to the public as part of Auckland Transport's (AT) FREE First Look events ahead of the City Rail Link (CRL) opening. The public open day is scheduled for 22 August 2026.
Visitors who secure a free ticket will be able to:
- Walk through the new underground station before train services begin.
- Learn about the station's design and features.
- Find out how Auckland's rail network will operate once the CRL opens.
- Low-sensory and early bird sessions, busking and community performances, food, pop-up experiences, interactive installations and activities.
The station will host 10 one-hour sessions from 8AM, with attendance numbers capped and tickets released in advance.
Te Waihorotiu is one of the two brand-new underground city-centre stations created by the CRL project and is located beneath the Victoria Street area in central Auckland. Once the CRL opens, it is expected to become a major transport hub, improving connections across the city and helping support more frequent train services through the city centre.
Journey Planner Preview and CRL Train Timetable
From 27 July 2026, Auckland Transport will introduce a new train timetable and launch a Journey Planner Preview, giving Aucklanders their first chance to see how public transport journeys will work when the City Rail Link (CRL) opens.
The Journey Planner Preview lets you compare today's network with the future CRL network and explore how travel across Auckland will change.
With the preview, you can:
- Explore the future rail network and new train lines
- See how your journeys may change when CRL opens
- View connections between trains, buses and ferries
- Plan trips using future timetable information
- Experience the benefits of CRL through real travel scenarios
The launch also coincides with the release of the new CRL train timetable, featuring three new rail lines — East West, South City, and Onehunga West — and services to the three new city stations: Maungawhau, Karanga-a-Hape, and Te Waihorotiu.
You can access the Journey Planner Preview through the AT website or by downloading the latest version of the AT Mobile app. More information and guidance will be provided closer to the opening of CRL.
Full timetables are now available on AT's website and more detailed guidance for customers will be shared in the lead up to opening.
