The constellation of Orion is one of the few stars that is perfectly recognisable in the night sky, but is visible from both hemispheres. The Orion Piano Trio rightly wants to combine the experience and passion cultivated in both hemispheres by its members, from Europe to New Zealand, in a program rich in history, lyricism, reflection and virtuosity. The Trio’s players are Marko Pop Ristov at the violin, Marco Ariani at the cello and Flavio Villani at the piano.

2022 marks the birthday anniversaries of two of the biggest masters of chamber music, F.Schubert and J.Brahms. These two remarkable composers are very well known for their prolific, rich and varied works, having left behind some of the most beautiful and beloved piano trios. The Orion Piano Trio have selected two of the best compositions from Schubert’s and Brahm’s piano trio repertoire with which they will invite NZ audiences to take part in the worldwide celebrations of these composers’ life and art.

The concert will include another Trio, a set of 3 pieces by award winning NZ composer Claire Cowan, one of the most prominent NZ composers: her experience spans from TV, orchestra, live bands, theatre and more. Recently she has scored the full ballets Hansel & Gretel and Cinderella for Royal New Zealand Ballet to outstanding reviews. We are thrilled to include her work in our masterpieces evening.

Schubert - Piano Trio No.2 in E flat, Op. 100
Claire Cowan - 'Subtle Dances'
Brahms - Piano Trio No.1 in B

This concert is proudly supported by the Italian Embassy in New Zealand.
