In the mood for traditional Pasifika tunes with a modern twist? Samoan musical collective, LEAO will be bringing their unique music style of ‘niu wave’ and ‘Pacific neo psychedelia’ to Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki as part of the Music of the Month series.
Led by David Feauai-Afaese, the group includes bassist Navakatoa Tekela-Pule, Hawaiian-steel guitarist Levi Gemmell, and drummer Larsen Tito-Taylor. LEAO fuses non-traditional tonalities with a fa’asamoa spirit, creating a sound that’s both rooted in tradition and refreshingly contemporary.
Among the many achievements of LEAO include their critically acclaimed debut project GHOST ROADS in 2019 and recent single TAEAO / MEA UMA. This talented group continues to push musical boundaries while honouring their Pacific heritage.
