Join Auckland Art Gallery for an intimate clay-making project with Korean-New Zealand artist Suji Park.

Known for creating distorted human forms, vessels and abstract objects, in her exhibition Meonji Soojibga | Dust Collector Park introduces us to a cast of hand-melded totemic figures seemingly floating in space, their distorted, cracked, pushed and pulled faces gazing out at us and into the beyond.

In this workshop, entitled The Faces I Have Seen, Park invites you to look at your own face or a friend’s for inspiration as you create a clay form.

As you shape your clay creation, Park will share insights into her art practice, what inspires her, and the influences and processes embodied in Meonji Soojibga | Dust Collector.

This event is free and drop-in only. Sessions will be approximately 30 minutes per person /couple.

Artist bio

Suji Park (born 1985) is a Korean-New Zealand artist based in Auckland. Park enigmatically practices a cyclical and intuitive approach to materiality, destroying and reconstituting her media. Her sculptural works range from iridescent abstract forms to intricately subjective figurative sculptures.

She completed an MFA at the University of Auckland’s Elam School of Fine Arts in 2013 and has exhibited (solo and group) throughout Australasia. She is currently completing her MA in Creative Writing at the Korea National University of Arts, while continuing to exhibit in New Zealand and South Korea.
