Traditionally crafted but oh so unconventionally delicious! That is the ethos behind Auckland’s newest gelato pop-up, Bear Gelato. Launched last September, Bear Gelato has gained a loyal following through the Auckland markets.
Bear Gelato makes everything from scratch with real ingredients and without pre-made bases. While using traditional Italian methods, their flavours go beyond classic flavours such as chocolate fudge brownie or boysenberry stracciatella. They focus on showcasing unconventional flavours that people may not have tried, bringing in a new dimension of fun to New Zealand’s favourite dessert. Each month - half their menu is centered on a particular ingredient or concept; such as gochujang caramel (spice), smoked maple bacon (smoke) and peanut & lime (nuts).
Bear Gelato also looks to innovate in the non-dairy based category. 40% of their menu is always allocated to non-dairy and vegan options. Currently, you can indulge in flavors like horchata, peanut and lime, oat flat white, and the classic, Sicilian pistachio. The team behind the Bear are a husband-and-wife duo, Ryan Scott and Kahwen Tan. The couple mastered the art of creating authentic gelato at an Italian-owned gelateria in Berlin.
