I WANT YOU AROUND playfully questions contemporary engagement with art through social media, particularly of tattoo artforms and the online emergence of associated aesthetics.
I WANT YOU AROUND is a collaboration by artist Richard Warnock and Joshua Solomon (and invited guests) evolving from their travels as independent artists and many years as co-workers at Auckland’s premiere tattoo studio, Two Hands.
This mixed-media installation will include selected works by the artists ranging from illustration to sculpture, to film and performance. This will take different forms over the week offering a new experience for visitors each day with Richard and/or Joshua tattooing onsite.
I WANT YOU AROUND continues to explore similar concepts proposed by Joshua in his two prior installations created for Artweek: Are You Really Here? (2016) and Disconnected (2017), perhaps best described as social reality.

LATE NIGHT ART - Tuesday 15 October

A new participatory performance piece involving six selected participants willing to get tattooed. Each individual will be interviewed by Dominic Hoey who will write a short poem in response to the interview, which the individual will receive as a tattoo while blindfolded. When the tattoo is finished, Dominic will read the poem out loud for the first time to the newly tattooed individual and the audience.
