The New Zealand Fashion Museum is celebrating the exciting comeback of handmade fashion with KNIT, a pop-up exhibition that’s all about creativity, craft, and community.

KNIT showcases the timeless charm of knitting, crochet, macramé, and weaving in today’s fashion world. Step into an immersive space where vintage inspiration meets modern flair.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Stunning historical fashion illustrations, photos, and patterns that sparked generations of makers
  • Contemporary garments, materials, and tools showing how yarn-based fashion is thriving today
  • Hands-on workshops and activations for every skill level — from beginner basics to expert masterclasses
  • Repair sessions to learn essential mending techniques and keep your clothes lasting longer

And because this is a community-powered celebration, you’re invited to get involved:

  • Contribute a garment to the exhibition
  • Donate your yarn stash
  • Volunteer as a host
  • Lead a workshop
  • Create a 12x12 cm peggy square to be part of a collaborative display

Whether you're a seasoned maker or just curious about the craft, KNIT is your chance to connect, create, and be inspired.

$2.50 per hour to a max of $12.50 on weekends and a $12.50 flat rate for weekday evenings at The Civic car park. Find out more
