The father of Emirati writer and diplomat Omar Saif Ghobash was shot dead by a terrorist at Abu Dhabi airport when Ghobash was just six years old. Now a father himself, and having served as Ambassador to France and Russia, and now UAE Assistant Minister for Culture and Public Diplomacy, the Oxford-educated Ghobash has produced the thoughtful and uplifting book Letters to a Young Muslim.

Constructed as a series of letters to his elder teenage son – and by extension other young Muslims (boys in particular) – it is an exploration of radicalisation and independent thought, of how to shape a life of faith free from trenchant dogma and shaped by individual imagination and responsibility. In conversation with Sonya Wilson.
