The Nightingale has now closed.
The Nightingale, a new pop-up bar offering gourmet comfort food and craft beer, has launched at the Viaduct.
Serving up a large selection of craft and international brews including nine on tap, there’s also a wine selection that’s concise but considered and a list of honest, well-made cocktails to match.
Shared platters include a charcuterie platter of salami copa, prosciutto, spiced chorizo, venison bresaola, mortadella, preserved vegetables and apple mostarda grilled sourdough; and another of hot pork, chicken and beef served with whipped honey butter, volcanic salt, mixed grain bread and gravy.
Burgers range from pulled pork with bourbon sauce, crispy shallots, pickled red cabbage and red onion; to a fried shrimp and oyster hoagie with cajun aioli; and portobello, roasted red pepper and haloumi. Deliciously melty raclette cheese features prominently alongside classics like chicken and waffles, truffle mac n cheese, bone marrow brulee, key lime pie and grandma’s chocolate cake.
But if all that comfort sounds a little daunting, never fear, with lighter options on the menu too like crayfish with soy glaze, wasabi aioli and sweet chili; beetroot salad with goat’s cheese, whitlof, bacon and hazelnuts; and a farm mix platter of tempting salads and sides.
With a dedicated stage in the main bar area, head along on Fridays or Saturdays for a refreshingly broad line-up of live indie, ska, reggae and pop in the downstairs bar and RnB and hip hop DJs on the upper level, or a mixed bag of comedy and one man bands mid week.
