Formerly known as Wine Chambers Restaurant, this wonderful historic building is now home to The General Restaurant.
The building itself is one of the best examples of ‘Chicago-style’ architecture in New Zealand built in the 1920’s, It was famed for its use of palatial and local marble and bronze, being the first centrally heated building in the country.
The General is a meeting place for lovers of contemporary restaurant culture. The décor and design as well as the selection of ingredients and compositions have been matched to the finest detail to create a timeless, urban atmosphere.
Under the guidance of Head Chef Jacopo Crosti and restaurant manager Ledio Voda, we invite you to come and enjoy a gastronomic experience we have worked hard on.
The General is pleased to bring you contemporary New Zealand cuisine, taking influence from the multitude of nationalities that make New Zealand what it is today.
