One of the breakout sensations of the 2019 publishing calendar, Three Women is an exploration of female desire by journalist Lisa Taddeo. For eight years and thousands of hours Taddeo crisscrossed America interviewing three women about their sexual histories, motivations, and insecurities – assault, bulimia, and swinging all feature. “This is the In Cold Blood of women’s sexuality,” said Caitlin Moran in The Times. “A non-fiction novel of such recurring darkness, truth and astonishment I will probably re-read it every year of my life.” Taddeo speaks with Julie Hill about her work, why women have been unable to talk about what they want, and her pessimism around sexual equality.
