The Madras-born Tishani Doshi has published seven books including her acclaimed Forward Prize-winning poetry collection Countries of the Body, and her latest volume Girls Are Coming Out of the Woods. Her debut novel The Pleasure Seekers was longlisted for the Orange Prize and her articles have appeared in The Hindu, The Financial Times, and Vogue. Latest novel Small Days and Nights sees three women living in coastal rural Indian contending with male violence, as well as economic and environmental hostilities. It has been praised by writers including Kamila Shamsie and Gary Shteyngart. Doshi has another mode of creative expression besides writing – she is a professional dancer. She joins Simone Kaho to discuss her work, her preoccupations, and current Indian challenges.
