Dubbed the “chronicler of American insanity” by The New York Times, Deborah Eisenberg has spent the last three decades taking the form of the short story to new heights. Her five collections were slow to birth (she averages one story a year), and are defined by observation, pace, economy, and vertiginous unpredictability. After publication of her recent Your Duck is My Duck Man Booker prize-winner George Saunders declared: “If our culture can produce a writer this wonderful, there must be something beautiful about us yet.” Eisenberg is also an actor and teaches writing at New York’s Columbia University. She speaks with Paula Morris.
