There is an abundance of musical talent that can be found in the underground/fringe music community of Tāmaki Makaurau. Ka Mua Ka Muri Te Iho Auaha is an annual music performance series that shines a lasting light on musicians and songwriters from across Auckland.

Ka Mua Ka Muri Te Iho Auaha is a Māori saying that translates loosely to walking backwards into the future, reflecting on where we are from and inspiring our creative journey into the future. This online video music series brings this saying to life as local artists reflect on the roots of their creativity through interview and performance.

Immersed in the bookshelves, in an intimate lamp lit corner of the basement of the Auckland Central City Library, performers share their artistry and inspiration in a relaxed and cozy atmosphere.

The fourth season of Ka Mua Ka Muri Te Iho Auaha features five incredible local artists including;

  • Hip hop lyricist, Idol Essence
  • Stand Up Stand Out 2024 winner TEMA
  • Soul/ funk singer Romi Wrights
  • Acclaimed jazz pianist Joe Kaptein
  • Tui award winning artist Bailey Wiley

Join in the 2025 theatrical release of the new Ka Mua Ka Muri Te Iho Auaha music video series and the opportunity to meet the five featured Tāmaki Makaurau based artists.
