This August and September, Event Cinemas presents the inaugural IMAX DOCO Film Festival, showcasing new and classic IMAX documentaries on New Zealand’s biggest and most immersive screen, IMAX with Laser.

A must see for all ages, the festival will have audiences launched into space to see the moon landing as it’s never been seen before, transported to the pandas in the mountains of China, delve deep into the ocean to discover weird and wonderful creatures and much more.

Opening the festival on Wednesday 28 August will be the superb documentary SUPERPOWER DOGS, narrated by actor Chris Evans. Superpower Dogs journeys into the life-saving superpowers & extraordinary bravery of some of the world's most remarkable dogs. Opening night tickets include a drink and goodie bag, and thanks to the support of Mars New Zealand, for every ticket sold 1kg of PEDIGREE®, Quality Pet Food will be donated to a local animal shelter.

The spectacular line-up also includes:
APOLLO 11: A look at the Apollo 11 mission to land on the moon led by commander Neil Armstrong and pilots Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.

PANDAS: Narrated by Kristen Bell, in the mountains of Sichuan, China, a researcher forms a bond with Qian Qian, a panda who is about to experience nature for the first time.
FREE SOLO: Follow Alex Honnold as he becomes the first person to ever free solo climb Yosemites’s 3000ft high El Capitan wall. With no ropes or safety gear, he completed arguably the greatest feat in rock climbing history.

DEEP SEA 3D: Sea life in a whole new way. Deep Sea 3D, an underwater adventure from the filmakers behind the successful IMAX 3D film Into the Deep, transports audiences deep below the ocean surface.

UNDER THE SEA 3D: Under the Sea 3D will transport movie-goers to some of the most exotic and isolated undersea locations on Earth, including Southern Australia, New Guinea and others in the Indo-Pacific region, allowing them to experience face-to-face encounters with some of the most mysterious and stunning creatures of the sea.

SPACE STATION 3D: As astoundingly beautiful as it is technically dazzling, Space Station 3D is the first-ever IMAX 3D space film. Audiences will travel 220miles above Earth at 17,500mph to experience Space Station 3D - the greatest engineering feat since landing a man on the Moon.

HUBBLE 3D: Through the power of IMAX 3D, “Hubble 3D”, narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, takes movie-goers on an unprecedented voyage through distant galaxies to explore the grandeur and mystery of our celestial surroundings.

A BEAUTIFUL PLANET 3D: A Beautiful Planet is a breath-taking portrait of Earth from space, providing a unique perspective and increased understanding of our planet and galaxy as never seen before.

BORN TO BE WILD 3D: Narrated by Academy-Award winner Morgan Freeman, Born to be Wild 3D is an inspiring story of love, dedication and the remarkable bond between humans and animals. This film documents orphaned orangutans and elephants and the extraordinary people who rescue and raise them - saving endangered species one life at a time.

ISLAND OF LEMURS 3D: Captured with IMAX 3D cameras, “Island of Lemurs: Madagascar” takes audiences on a journey to the remote and wondrous world of Madagascar. Lemurs arrived in Madagascar as castaways millions of years ago and evolved into hundreds of diverse species but are now highly endangered.

GALAPAGOS 3D: Part adventure, part scientific expedition, part personal quest, and part fantastic voyage, this unprecedented non-fiction film takes audiences on a journey with marine biologist Dr. Carole Baldwin, from the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of Natural History, on her first trips to the famed Galapagos Islands.
