Auckland Theatre Company and Te Pou Theatre are absolutely pumped to present the world premiere of Hyperspace by Albert Belz. Winner of the 2023 Adam NZ Play Award, Hyperspace is a sequel to Albert Belz’s much-loved Astroman, presented in 2019 and directed by Tainui Tukiwaho.
Set in 1990 Aotearoa, Hyperspace follows Natalie Te Rehua, a small-town girl trying to make it in the big city. She's working as an aerobics instructor while chasing her dream of becoming a dancer. With determination, charisma, and a knack for pūkana, she reluctantly partners with Haka queen Tāwhai Pātai to compete in the mixed doubles category at the New Zealand Aerobics Championships. However, they decide to ditch the conventional routine and introduce a unique Haka-fusion that sets the stage on fire.
