Cold Blood
Auckland Arts Festival 2020
Featuring elaborate scale film sets, tiny props, cinema projection, and a cast of performing hands, Cold Blood is like nothing you’ve ever seen before – a mind-blowing theatre event that unfolds in miniature, and on the tips of performers’ fingers.
Belgian choreographer Michèle Anne De Mey and filmmaker Jaco Van Dormael create cinematic vignettes celebrating life through the absurdity of death: a drive-in movie theatre, a war-ravaged city, a space station, an old Hollywood ballroom with a Fred and Ginger-style tap routine.
Funny, tragi-comic, philosophical and strangely moving, Cold Blood transports us to amazing miniature worlds, where the fingers do the walking, and a film crew captures it all in real time on a giant movie screen. Performed to music by Schubert, David Bowie, Janis Joplin and Nina Simone.
“Wonderfully whimsical, exquisitely crafted… breath-taking, affecting [and] magical.” — The Herald (Scotland)
