Get ready for a weekend full of creativity, community and zine magic! Auckland Zinefest is back for its 17th annual winter market at the beautiful Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. Join the fun for two jam-packed days of zines galore with stalls, activities, food and refreshments.

But, what is a ‘zine’? Zines are DIY publications made by anyone with something to say – sharing stories and ideas you won’t usually find in mainstream media. Rooted in activist, punk and fandom cultures, they cover everything from niche interests to bold ideas. Come meet the makers, swap stories, and leave inspired with a bag full of new treasures!

And the best part? Entry to the gallery, market and activities is free!

What to expect:

  • 10am to 11am: Both days will include a relaxed hour for those who prefer a lower-stimulation environment for browsing.
  • 11am to 4pm: Browse different zine makers each day across Te Ātea, the South Atrium and Grey Gallery, with work spanning art, photography, comics, personal stories and much more.
  • 11am to 3pm: Browse award-winning zines from previous years and create your own zine in the E H McCormick Research Library.
  • 11am to 4pm: Visit the East Terrace for a kai break, with food and drinks on offer from local favourites. Please note food and drink cannot be taken back into the Gallery spaces.
  • 11am to 3pm: Get creative on the East Terrace by making a take-home badge or a teeny-tiny zine to turn into a pin or magnet.

We recommend bringing a bag for your purchases, as well as some cash, as not all stallholders may accept cashless payments.

$2.50 per hour to a max of $12.50 on weekends and a $12.50 flat rate for weekday evenings at The Civic car park. Find out more
