The New Zealand Maritime Museum is the place where Aotearoa’s stories of people and the sea are preserved, shared and celebrated.

Every one of us is affected by te moana/the ocean, whether through immigration, trade, leisure or harvesting of kaimoana/seafood. The museum is a hub for these stories; you’ll experience them in permanent galleries and through a diverse range of events, exhibitions, harbour sailings and more

Interactive and immersive, this museum is a great place for all ages. Try your hand at virtual yacht-racing, marvel at traditional Polynesian vaka/outrigger design, hoist the sails, hear the cannon fire, test your sea legs and batten down the hatches in the rocking cabin.

Join their crew for a sailing aboard the beautifully maintained heritage scow Ted Ashby. Enjoy the feeling of the wind in your hair, the sound of the waves and the smell of the salt air. Take in the city skyline including the iconic Auckland Harbour Bridge as you cruise the sparkling water of the Waitemata. Bookings recommended, additional cost for sailing.
