Auckland aspires to be Zero Waste by 2040, taking care of people and the environment, and turning waste into resources.
Sophien Brockbank, who leads strategic planning for Waste Solutions in the Infrastructure & Environmental Services section at Auckland Council, will discuss the work council is currently undertaking to deliver on Auckland’s Waste Management and Minimisation Plan.
She will provide an update on Auckland’s waste situation from domestic waste and kerbside collections through to the Resource Recovery Network and the national waste levy. She will look at the advantages of considering waste at the beginning of a project and the opportunities that ‘designing out waste’ can have on the stages of development projects including construction and demolition waste. The event will also touch on general household recycling; getting to the bottom of recycling processing and the level of contamination acceptable.
Please join us for a discussion on the impacts that our day to day decisions as architects, engineers and more importantly as residents of Auckland have on the Auckland’s waste system.
