This is a time and space for Māori storytellers to read or share kōrero connected to the wai.
Poets, authors, historians and orators will share or read stories of old and new. In exploring pūrākau which connect to wai – whether from awa, other freshwater bodies or the moana, the sea – the storytime will honour the Matariki stars Waitī and Waitā.
Honouring oral practices that passed mātauranga Māori down through the generations is a way to respect indigenous knowledge and celebrate Matariki. This wā kōrero is an opportunity to connect through pūrākau with practices of the past and with one another.
